During .INFO's Sunrise Period, many non-compliant domains were registered and subsequently locked. Since these domains have been in limbo for years, Afilias, the official registry operator of the gTLD .INFO, submitted to ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) a request for a new registry service that would allow Afilias to equitably reallocate some of these domains. This request to redistribute non-compliant domains has recently been approved by the ICANN Board. The decision and additional information can be read here.

With this approval, Afilias has announced that the Phased Equitable Reallocation of Non-Compliant .INFO Sunrise Domain Names (the "Program") will commence on November 6, 2009. In the first phase of the program, Afilias will accept proposals from interested parties that would like to register one or more of the relevant domains.
